The Safest Activities in the age of COVID-19

The Safest Activities in the age of COVID-19

Business is opening back up, but that doesn’t mean that life just goes right back to normal.  We all need to be cautious and ease into things to reduce the spread.  SO what does that mean ?  In the age of the internet and 24-hr news cycle you’d think it would be pretty easy to get information about COVID-19 and what activities are safe to do.  Part of the issue here is that we started knowing nothing and each day new information become available.  That mis-information gets mixed in with politics and things start to get murky.  Here at HandleBar my brother and I are hyper aware to how coronavirus affects HandleBar so we thought we’d put together a list why we believe HandleBar is a good one to start with.  A member of my family is also an infectious disease specialist so I’m constantly making sure I’m updating this list and double checking.

Why HandleBar is a COVID-19 Safe Activity now that the ban is lifted:
1. Outside only: Information has been published showing being outside in the open air is an acceptable activity.  We will not go INSIDE any bars.  There are plenty of downtown areas with space to visit (parks, monuments, etc)
2. Smaller Groups: The federal government has said it is OK to go outside in groups of 10 or less.  We would like to propose limiting our tours to 10 people (normally we do groups up to 16).  These groups all know each other and majority will be people who are already quarantining together.
3. Heat & sunlight: We have our first 70deg day this weekend so warmer temperates are here to stay; studies have shown that heat and UV could reduce the spread of COVID-19 and our business is always in these conditions.
4. Customer provided beverages/food:  We don’t provide customers any food or beverage.  Everything they bring is from home and we don’t touch anything.  This is better, in comparison, to takeout food that has already been allowed throughout the worst of the COVID-19 epidemic and allows strangers to touch packaging.
5. Masks/Testing/Hand Sanitizer:  We will have a thermometer on site and test every driver for temperature.  All employees will wear masks and use hand sanitizer.  We have secured COVID-19 testing for all employees that feel they may have it or just want to get tested.
Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Federal Guidelines:  We’ll summarize the parts that apply to HandleBar and then below you can see the entire document if you’d like to read it
1. CDC Guideline: Social settings of more than 50 people, where appropriate distancing may not be practical, should be avoided unless precautionary measures are observed. (page 13)

–> HandleBar response:  We would require our drivers and customers to wear masks.  Our employees would not touch the customers or any of their drinks/food. (Serve yourself).  This would be considered precautionary measures and comply with the guideline for large groups, even though our tours would be much less than 50.

XX. LARGE VENUES (e.g., sit-down dining, movie theaters, sporting venues, places of worship) can operate under moderate physical distancing protocols

2.  BARS may operate with diminished standing-room occupancy, where applicable and appropriate.

3. Strongly consider SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS for personnel who are members of a VULNERABLE POPULATION.
